“New-Style” Algonquin Birch Bark Canoe
This is an elegant example of the so-called “new-style” Algonquin canoe. Notice the strips of bark, which are visible under the gunwale and run longitudinally from bow to stern. These strips of bark reinforce the bark of the hull and prevent the gunwale lashings from tearing out.
