Monday: JUNIOR WOOD-WORKER
Get ready for the camping season early! Campers will learn about the various ways one can carry their food and gear on a canoe camping trip and then they put their knowledge to the test when they build their very own authentic wooden wanigan (junior size)! What's a wanigan? A wooden box used to bring along your favourite foods on a canoe trip. Never held a hammer before? Not to worry, no experience is necessary.
Tuesday: DRUM MAKING WORKSHOP
Back by popular demand! Every good camper knows that music makes the trip. Campers will build their own drum and then using the exhibits as inspiration, they will customize the drum skin with unique images created with paints. This is a new twist to this popular program.
Wednesday: CANOEKIDS ECO-CHALLENGE new!
Spend some time with us as we take the plunge to determine our ecological footprints and explore the many routes to lessen our impact on the Earth. Fun and interesting activities will dominate the day and will include growing a garden and discovering the critters of the Kawarthas with puppets!
Thursday: TRIPPERS IN TRAINING new!
Kids! Be more independent around the campsite with our 'canoe tripper in training' program. Campers will set up a campsite, play paddling games, build a campfire, pack up the backpacks and do many, many other fun activities that are tied to the everyday routines on a canoe trip. Don't think you are the camping type, don't worry this day will be so much fun for everyone!
Friday: CANOES, CLAY AND STONE new!
The canoes and kayaks in our galleries are laden with intricate details and artistry. Similar to when an artist seeks inspiration from the natural landscape, campers will seek inspiration from the canoes and kayaks here. Campers will make a clay canoe from our collection as well as becoming a soapstone carver.
