Adult Canoeing Programs

2017 REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Kawarthas and travel by canoe with The Canadian Canoe Museum. Our adult canoeing programs are suitable for anyone over the age of 18 looking to learn the basics of canoeing or build skills for your next on-water adventure. We are proud to teach skill levels laid out by the Ontario Recreational Canoeing & Kayaking Association (ORCKA). Our ORCKA-certified instructors are knowledgeable, patient, and keen to help you make the most out of your time on the water. We'll help you perfect your strokes and hone your technique to make paddling more efficient and fun!

All required equipment is supplied by the Canoe Museum (canoes, paddles, PFDs and safety kits). Participants are responsible for bringing their own lunch. Check out our recommended packing list here.

2017 Course Dates & Pricing

ORCKA Basic canoeing Level 1&2 (tandem)

This one-day course provides an introduction to tandem canoeing and skill development. Participants will learn safe canoeing practices, basic theory and an introduction to strokes and maneuvers. Lay a solid foundation of skills while learning proper terminology and technique. There are no canoeing pre-requisites for this course.

ORCKA basic canoeing Level 2&3 (tandem)

This one-day course focuses on advanced tandem skill development. Build on the skills introduced in Basic Canoeing Level 1 by refining paddling techniques and performing maneuvers with more precision. Pre-requisites: ORCKA Basic Canoeing Level 1, equivalent certification or comparable skills (with permission from the course director).

Orcka basic canoeing level 4 (solo)

Thursday August 3rd and Friday August 4th, 2017

This two-day course introduces the canoeist to solo paddling. We'll spend the first morning reviewing tandem skills, then spend the remainder of the course mastering the fundamentals of solo paddling. Pre-requisites: ORCKA Basic Canoeing Level 3, equivalent certification or comparable skills (with permission from the course director).
